September Learning

Dear Families,
We are really excited about all of the new learning that we have been doing.  In math we have been working on a variety topics including place value, rounding, estimating, addition and subtraction, and converting feet to yards.  Next week we will work on right angles and perimeter. We will likely have a Math test next Friday.  Students are bringing home pages to help them prepare for the test.  The problems they should focus on have been highlighted, but here is a quick list:
p. 2 #1, 2, 6, 8
P. 4 #1-4
P. 7 all
P. 16 #1-5
P. 21 #1-5
P. 24 #2, 4

Reading has been filled with learning about narrative stories.  Students have learned about character, setting, and plot (the important events, the problem and the solution).
In Writing, students have been bringing stories down to small moments and adding details so their reader feels like they are there.
Students have really enjoyed Genius Hour on Friday afternoons.  They have made towers out of spaghetti and worked on the great cup challenge.  This week students explored coding on the computers using two different websites.
Book orders are coming home today.  They will be due Friday, October 7th. You may place your order online or send in an order form with a check made out to Scholastic.
We hope you have a fantastic weekend!
